Assist watch secures the elderly in care homes

Assist Watch is a discrete solution to enable greater independence for residents, providing reassurance for relatives and management.

Why is it important?

The UK physical activity guidelines recommend older adults participate in at least 150 minutes a week of moderate intensity activity to help improve muscle strength, balance and coordination.

Inactivity is over twice as prevalent among people with a disability compared to people who are not disabled (Sport England, 2016 & 2018).

Activity can help to prevent falls, maintain bone health and preserve physical and mental fitness (Skelton et al., 2018).

Who is it for?

The safety of physical activity can be a cause for concern for relatives and friends, and carers and management.

The Assist Watch solution is well suited to elderly and disabled people to maintain healthy levels of physical activity, whilst residing in:

  • Care homes
  • Nursing homes
  • Assisted Living Communities
  • Independent Living Centres
  • Retirement villages
  • Retirement Communities
  • Elder/Senior Co-housing

Information for residents, relatives, & friends

Understandably, seniors often experience entering a care or nursing home as a constraint and loss of autonomy from life in their own home.

The Assist watch enables them to maintain their independence and physical activity, both inside and outside the establishment, in complete safety.

If necessary, residents can press the button on their watch to directly alert staff to provide assistance.

Information for management & carers

Unlike other solutions, the non-stigmatising design of the Assist Watch is easily accepted by residents.

Built in GPS means disoriented seniors are easily located within 10 metres, and automatic alerts can be set for predefined distances from the care facility.

Frequent falls create an anxiety-provoking climate for the nursing staff as well as for all the residents, including the most autonomous. The Assist Watch automatically detects heavy falls and warns staff directly.

One alert generates multiple requests for assistance

The alert service tries the most relevant responders in turn, and if a helper is not available, tries the next most relevant helper until someone accepts the task of organising the response.

Alerts can be configured to be sent by smartphone notification, text message, phone call, email, or integrated into other current systems using a webhook.

Highly reliable global connectivity

Assist Watch uses the Sigfox global IoT 0G network, designed specifically for wide area coverage both indoors and outdoors. Using very low power consumption, enabling small but critical messages to be transmitted with high reliability.
